If you’re looking for a protagonist to root for, look no further than Eramus. He is truly the heart of this story—kind, courageous, and just plain sweet. He often finds himself in hot water, but because his decisions are driven by a desperate desire to help others, you can’t help but cheer him down every difficult path he takes.

What I Loved
The opening of this book is absolute perfection. Eramus’s home is a cozy, agricultural haven where everyone prioritizes the community over the individual. It felt wonderfully “Shire-like” and grounded.

Before Eramus sets off on his quest to save his village from the coming winter, there is a scene where he visits his late wife’s grave. Fair warning: keep the tissues nearby! It was written so beautifully that I found myself completely moved to tears.

A Few Considerations
Once Eramus hits the road and meets a cast of new characters, the “spark” faded slightly for me. The group chemistry didn’t quite click, and the single-threaded plot leaned into a romance that felt a bit “cheesy” for my personal taste.

Final Thoughts
Overall, this is a very sweet and solid debut; I have given it 2.75 stars. If you enjoy gentle quests and heroes with hearts of gold, this is a lovely pick!

A very special thanks to Warrington Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
